About Rob

Rob Wix started presenting science shows when he was just 18 years old at Techniquest science centre in Cardiff Bay. His role as Science Communicator and Presenter meant he delivered several shows a day to a variety of audiences and on a wide variety of topics –everything from forces and energy through to slime and space! In this role he also undertook a European tour of science centres, taking a travelling science show to Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, France and Germany.

After three years of presenting science Rob moved to Swansea to study for a BA Ed in Primary Education, where he graduated with honours and Qualified Teacher Status. While at university he also produced several Planetarium shows, recording the scripts and composing the original soundtracks between his studies. After university followed education roles at Thinktank in Birmingham and an organic farm in Mid Wales. He returned to work for Techniquest as Education Manager Techniquest Glyndwr in Wrexham for five years.

In 2007 he started his own education organisation ‘SCIntillate' - to provide a new way of teaching environmental science. Now called 'Sustainable Science' the organisation specialises in public engagement activities, school shows, workshops and presenter training. Rob has recently completed a Masters degree in Communicating Science and was recently awarded a 'distinction' for the LAMDA Gold Public Speaking award.

At home Rob likes sustainable living - he has solar electricity, grows vegetables, keeps chickens and collects wood for all of his hot water and central heating.
